FESTIVAL RECITAL AWARD

THE TROPHY AND AWARD ARE GIVEN IN MEMORY OF DAVID FARO BALFOUR

A series of heats will take place, judged by the individual adjudicators, and the winners will go forward to the Recital Final which will be judged by a further panel of 3 adjudicators.

THE OVERALL WINNER WILL RECEIVE A PRIZE OF £100,
AND WILL BE OFFERED A PUBLIC RECITAL OPPORTUNITY IN THE
GORLESTON ST. ANDREW'S FESTIVAL OF MUSIC AND THE ARTS, NOVEMBER 2009

The Recital Award is independent of the remainder of the Festival awards, and results in these heats will not be eligible for award of other trophies, nor nomination to the "Festival Musician of the Year" competition. Specific marks will not be awarded in the heats or final.

Syllabus requirements:

The standard will be that of "Open" classes in other areas of the Festival, that is, at least Grade 7/8.

Instrumentalists and Singers must use one of the Festival Official Accompanists. This is a condition of entry. Please see Rule 18

Competitors should present a recital of at least 3 works or movements, within the overall time limit of 15-20 minutes.

Credit will be given for choice of programme, presentation and platform manner, and performing from memory, in addition to normal criteria.

Competitors may not select items from any of the set lists in the Festival Syllabus. Where the main syllabus is based on examination board lists, pieces appearing in these lists may be offered for the Recital classes, if the competitor wishes.

Competitors may not present items in the Recital classes which they are performing elsewhere in the Festival.

The award may be witheld if, in the opinion of the adjudicators, adequate standards are not reached.

REC(B) Brass
REC(G) Guitar
REC(P) Piano
REC(S) Strings
REC(V) Voice

THE RECITAL FINAL WILL TAKE PLACE ON SATURDAY 28th March 2009.
