Electronic Keyboard

Please note these important points relevant to all competitors:

  1. Candidates should provide their own full-size key keyboard for their performance, together with power supply.
  2. Competitors will be marked on their interpretation of the music. The resources of a particular instrument will not be taken into account. Automatic rhythms and accompaniments (not autochords) may be used if they are available. Technical ability in setting up the instrument, changing voice or volume, starting and stopping accompaniments at appropriate moments will all be taken into account. Disc drives and RAM packs may be used for registration only. Multi-tracking may only be used in class 411, where a full score must be presented to the adjudicator.
Note: Music for Classes 401-408 should be selected from Trinity/Guildhall, or LCM syllabuses
Please specify your choice of piece on the entry form. ADJUDICATORS' COPIES WILL BE REQUIRED

400 Keyboard - Preliminary (pre- Grade 1) Two contrasting pieces of own choice, each about 12 - 24 bars.
401 Keyboard - Grade 1
402 Keyboard - Grade 2
403 Keyboard - Grade 3
404 Keyboard - Grade 4
405 Keyboard - Grade 5
406 Keyboard - Grade 6
407Keyboard - Grade 7
408 Keyboard - Grade 8
409 Keyboard - Junior Open (up and including Grade 5) One or more pieces of own choice. Total time limit 4 minutes.
410 Keyboard Open (Grade 6 and above) One or more pieces of own choice, not less than 5 minutes nor more than 7 minutes
411 Keyboard - Own Interpretation / Your own interpretation of any standard melody. This should include an Arrangementintroduction, harmonisation, variation if desired and coda. The adjudicator will require a written copy of the melody, plus a short written description of your approach. A full score must be submitted to the adjudicator if multi-tracking is used. Time limit 5 minutes.
412 Keyboard - Improvisation The adjudicator will provide you with a written basis on which to improvise. You may choose from: i) chord sequence ii) melodic idea iii) song title (examples are available from the Co-ordinator on request) You will be given 10 minutes preparation time in a separate room.
413 Keyboard - Leisure Play A non-competitive class for those who enjoy playing for pleasure, and would welcome the benefit of helpful and constructive advice. Adjudications only will be given. Time limit 5 minutes.
414 Keyboard Ensemble 2 or more players. Players may each play an individual keyboard or play 2 to an instrument (only permitted in ensembles of 3 or more players). Written parts in the music may be doubled up as appropriate. Marks will be awarded according to the musical closeness of the ensemble, balance of parts and effective registrations.
